Sidney R. Thede

WATERLOO – Sidney R. Thede, 71, of Waterloo passed away from cancer on Monday, February 11, 2019.

Sidney was born on February 28, 1947, son of Walter and Ethel (Bern) Thede. He was baptized on June 15, 1947, and confirmed on April 29, 1962, both at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, IA. On August 16, 1966, Sidney was drafted into the US Army reporting to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. On April 21, 2001, he married Kathryn S. (St. John) at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Sidney was raised in Reinbeck; attended and graduated from Reinbeck Community Schools. He retired from John Deere Tractor Works in December of 1997, after 31 years of employment. Sidney is a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 242 of Reinbeck, IA.

Sidney loved a great conversation, adventure, traveling, fine dining dinner dates in the city, road trips, picnics, spur of the moment excursions; fishing without a pole, riding his motorcycle, shiny fast convertible cars with the top down listening to 60’s music, farmer’s markets, Wisconsin’s roadside vegetable stands, 10 years of adventures in SE Wisconsin, a good party, card game, food, ice cream and especially going to the races and to the beach.

Survived by: Kathy; Dusty & Chelsey Miller of Shell Rock; Joshua Miller, Brogan and Bronson of Waukee; Philip & Rose Wernert of Galesville, Wisconsin; Jayne Thede (Jack Miller) and W. Scott Thede of Reinbeck; Kevin & Barb St. John of Shell Rock; Jill (St. John) and Denny Wiegmann of Dumont; Bernita St. John-Wiebke of Allison; several nieces, great-nieces; nephews and great-nephews; and close lifelong friends.
