Harold Edward Vokoun was born on June 25, 1943, in Hudson, Iowa, son of Edward and Iva (Ehlers) Vokoun. He was raised in the Waterloo area and graduated from Dunkerton High School with the Class of 1961. Harold was married to Claudia Jean Eldridge on May 16, 1964, and drafted into the United States Army in April of 1967. He served in Vietnam from September of 1967-September of 1968 and returned to Fort Polk, Louisiana where he was a Rifle Instructor. Harold was honorably discharged in April of 1969 and returned to the Waterloo area where he owned and operated Vokoun Trucking. He went to school at Hawkeye Technical School where he earned his degree in accounting in December of 1978. Harold was self-employed as an accountant and worked for Hawkeye Community College as a fiscal officer in Area VII Job Training. He retired from Hawkeye in July of 1998 and he and Claudia moved to Holiday Lake where they enjoyed their well-earned golden years. In his free time Harold enjoyed woodworking and model trains. However, his greatest joy was in being “Papa” to his two grandchildren, Austin and Ethan.

Harold passed away at the age of 75 years at Liberty Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri on Monday, November 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Karen Garrison. Harold is survived by his wife of 54 years, Claudia of Kansas City, MO; his daughter, Amanda Jean (Jeremy) Capps of Kansas City; and 2 grandsons, Austin and Ethan Capps.
