David William Niedert

David William Niedert was born on January 1, 1934,in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of William and Katherine Niedert. He graduated from Waterloo East High School in 1952, worked for Rath Packing from 1952-1953, then served in the U.S. Army’s Combat Engineer Corps from 1953-1956 in Germany. He was united in marriage to June M. Knight on May 28, 1958, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was employed by John Deere at Product Engineering Center for thirty nine years, retiring in 1996 as a Senior Designer. He was a former Boy Scout leader with Cedar Falls Troop 158. David was a member of St. Timothy’s United Methodist Church for fifty years. He loved to travel, golf, go fishing, bowl in the John Deere bowling league, enjoy the music and arts scene in the Cedar Valley, and most of all spend time with his family.
David passed away on February 28, 2019 at the Western Home Communities Nation Cottage in Cedar Falls following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Rex Niedert. David is survived by his wife June of Cedar Falls, daughter Michelle R. (Randy) Cook of Hudson; daughter Lisa M. Niedert of Waterloo; son Michael D. Niedert of Cedar Falls; 2 grandsons, Aaron J. (Breana) Cook and Michael D. Niedert Jr.; one great grandson, Dakota L. Cook; one brother, Bill (Kathleen) of Hudson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to St. Timothys United Methodist Church and/or Boy Scout of America – Cedar Falls Troop 158.
